According to videos that surfaced on X Tuesday, anti-Israel protesters were seen burning an American flag outside of the Democratic National Convention while chanting, "F*ck this country! Burn it down!"
Chicago police, equipped with riot gear, attempted to maintain order as the crowd grew increasingly hostile. The protesters, many of whom were carrying signs that read "End US Aid to Israel" and "Gaza Means Fight Back," confronted the officers, who formed a line to push the crowd back. Video footage captured the moment when a protester set the U.S. flag on fire, prompting a confrontation with reporter, Ben Bergquam, who attempted to extinguish the flames.
Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene took to X, to express her concern for Bergquam and condemn the actions of the protesters, saying, “If they don’t respect our flag, our laws, our constitution, our law enforcement, then they also don’t respect our lives. Ben Bergquam has been my friend for a long time. He’s right and he’s courageous, but some of these people would kill him if they could. Be careful Ben.”
The protest outside the DNC also drew attention to the nearby Israeli consulate, with demonstrators expressing their anger at U.S. support for Israel. Tensions escalated further when protesters clashed with a pair of white supremacists who had appeared at the scene.
The violent demonstration followed another anti-Israel protest on Monday, where Hamas flags were prominently displayed. The march, which involved several thousand participants, included radical chants and slogans calling for the destruction of Israel.
